FORMULATING YOUR INITIAL CONSULTATION WITH A LAWYER

Initial consultation refers to the first visit with the lawyer and it is important to come prepared to make the best use of your time. Here are some tips to do before meeting a lawyer for the first time;

  • Conduct a research.

Before you visit any lawyer for the first time for a legal issue, you should know them. It would be best if you researched whether the lawyer is an expert and experienced in this area. You also need to find out whether your choice of a lawyer is licensed, you can search their names on LSK advocate search which will show you their registration number and name, and if they can  be identified by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK)

  • How do you meet with the lawyer?

Most lawyers have their information on websites so you can have their office line and check if you can make an appointment. or go directly to their office but you have to remember that not everyone is free and your supposed lawyer might be in court, meeting, or busy with some activities.

  • Consultation.

Here you will look at two things; the consultation fee, and during the consultation. First, you should know that once you’ve made an appointment with your lawyer after making a verification, you should pay a consultation fee since nothing is done for free. The lawyer has a legal duty to give you proper and accurate advice. Secondly, during the consultation, you need to narrate your story consistently and give the lawyer time to give their advice and for clarification to be made. Ensure to use the shortest time possible since a lawyer is always busy.

  • Conclusion.

Initial consultation with a lawyer can be a bit challenging but it is the best encounter ever for a client like you. The perfect legal advice given to you by the lawyer will lessen your pressure or stress over the legal problem.
